Fort Gratiot Light is the oldest continually operating light on the Upper Great Lakes.  The Fort Gratiot Light has several buildings in its complex and is now a park in St. Clair County Michigan. This painting was painted from the north end of Light House Beach. It was still, no wind, quiet no people in sight or any boat traffic, perfect for concentrating on painting. Oh, there were about 1,000 seagulls on the beach, all facing the sun, some sitting some standing. I think they must have been asleep because they were not squawking or picking at each other like they normally do.

Sunrise Fort Gratiot Lighthouse Complex is an original water color paining by Lezly Straub.

This painting was painted on Arches 140# cold press archival rag paper with Winsor & Newton professional watercolors.
