One summer evening I was driving to take a picture of the sunset and some derelict barns out in the country that I had spotted a few days before. They were very interesting but sad, and I had wondered if a sunset would improve the mood. On my way I spotted this amazingly illuminated fresh hay bail. So I turned around drove back and found, with slower inspection, a row of back-lit trees that allowed for the Queen Anne's Lace in the ditch to be beautifully contrasted. The hay bale was just one part of a landscape that was ready to paint. I did not change much in the composition of this painting it was just right just the way it was.
